Why You Should Avoid Gluten
What is Gluten:
Gluten is a protein present in wheat flour, which is widely used in commercial and homemade baked goods. Gluten is also found in flour made from barley, rye, spelt, and triticale, a cross between wheat and rye. Gluten helps dough to rise and lends shape and a chewy texture to baked goods.
Do you suffer from any of the following:
- brain fog
- depression (gluten disrupts your gut and your ability to absorb important nutrients)
- joint pain and arthritis (inflammation)
- skin rashes
- headaches and migraines
- extra weight
Perhaps you are thinking…. these symptoms have nothing to do with food. These issues are known as gluten sensitivity. They have everything to do with food and nothing to do with gut pain, which is typically the result of a having an intolerance to gluten. Most people don’t realize they have a sensitivity because their gut feels fine.
Inflammation in the body caused from gluten can cause all of the above issues.
Where are you on the Gluten Spectrum?
Gluten Tolerant:
You can eat pizza, cakes, cookies, etc… and have no reaction at all. No gut pain, no skin rashes, no headaches, etc…
Gluten Sensitive:
You react with one or more of the above issues.
Celiac:
Major reaction to gluten and must avoid gluten all together.
Not sure if you have a gluten sensitivity?
Not all doctors perform a gluten sensitivity test. However, by taking my Clean Eating Challenge. This is the perfect way to learn how to eat clean and eliminate gluten from your diet. At the end of the challenge you may slowly reintroduce foods you were once eating and watch how your body reacts. Remember some foods can take up to 36 hours to show negative signs. This is why so many people don’t always realize which food is causing havoc on their body.
