How To Reduce Stress

How To Reduce Stress

Did you know high levels of stress can lead to serious health problems.  Take the time to practice reducing stress in your life.

Reduce Stress – Top 4 Ways to Practice:

Gratitudes

“Being grateful for your blessings cancels out negative thoughts and worries,” says Joni Emmerling, a wellness coach in Greenville, NC.

My daughter (Alyssa) and I practice being grateful.  Each night before bed we talk How To Reduce Stressabout our day and then say 5 things we are grateful for that day.  Examples of our gratitudes we have shared.

  • I am grateful for a warm dinner tonight.
  • I am grateful for the new clothes I received for school.
  • I am grateful for having great friends.
  • I am grateful for a home.
  • I am grateful for a daughter who makes me laugh.

Meditate

People who meditate have a decrease in blood pressure, their resting heart rate is lower and they have less anxiety.   Meditation can also  improve your mood and memory and decrease depression.

“What is meditation?” Essentially, the answer to the question is a simple one. Meditation is an approach that anyone can use to help them cope with medical problems, stress, and anxiety by way of thought, contemplation, and reflection.

Get Active

Getting outside and going for a brisk walk around the block or taking a yoga class can ease depression and anxiety.  Exercise helps the brain release feel-good chemicals.

Laugh Out Loud

Belly laugh.  Put a good comedy on and laugh out loud.  I love hearing Alyssa laugh.  Its contagious! Laughing lowers cortisol, (stress hormone) and boosts a chemical in the brain called endorphins, helping lift your mood.
