Are You Eating Too Many Carbs
Do you have Diabetes? Did you know it is the 8th leading cause of death world wide! It used to be known as an older person’s disease. It is now being diagnosed in children as early as 2 years old.
The documentary “Carb Loaded – A Culture Dying To Eat” with Eric Carlsen and Lathe Poland, has some very informative information.
Obesity rates in children have tripled in the past 30 years. Today’s generation of children are expected to be the first to die before their parents.
The CDC (Centre for Disease Control and Prevention) estimates by 2050
- 1 in 3 Americans will be diabetic
- 1 in 2 will be obese
Metabolic Syndrome
- High blood pressure
- High blood sugar
- Excess body fat
- Abnormal cholesetrol levels
These issues when occuring together, increase your risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. You don’t have to be over weight to be sick. There are many people walking around who look healthy on the outside and are already sick on the inside and don’t know it.
Diet Related Illnesses
Diet related illnesses are caused by many factors, such as:
- GMOs
- Pesticides
- Microwaves
- Growth Hormones
- Parasites
- Preservatives
- Trans Fats
- Food Dyes
- BHA
- BHT
- Gluten
- and Portion Size to name a few
The amount of food we eat, the type of food, the frequency have all changed from our traditional home cooking. It has become boxed food and drive thu’s and super size meals. What is a portion? With all of these super size meals, we are eating more and doing less.
We are influenced by lighting, music, and the people we eat with. When we eat with:
- 1 other person, we eat 30% more than by ourselves
- a group of people, we eat 90% more than by ourselves
It is so easy to over eat when we are distracted by the people and things around us.
Pancreas and Insulin
A healthy pancreas produces insulin and this helps regulate your blood sugar level.
- Healthy Person
Insulin is produced at the right time and right quantities - Type 2 Diabetic – with the volume and frequency of insulin being released, receptor cells become less sensitive (Insulin resistant). Which means less sugar is being removed from the blood
- Type 1 Diabetic – the pancreas is attacked by the bodies own cells and no longer produces insulin to remove sugar from the blood stream
Nutritional Guidelines
In the United States, nutritional guidelines were approved and the creation of the Food Pyramid was born. There was a push back from scientists and nutritionists because there was no science to support this experimentation on the public. There was not 1 clinic trial to verify this diet would be better than what people were eating.
These guidelines have always been evaluated on how well they were followed, they have never been evaluated on how well they work. The 2010 Dietary Guidelines states: “… they have not been specifically tested for health benefits.”
Since 1977 when the food pyramid was released:
- Diabetes rates nearly quadrupled
- Hypertension continues to climb
- Obesity levels skyrocketed
- Metabolic Syndrome became common place
Health and Safety recommendations should produce favourable results!
The legacy of the food pyramid is a great example of an epic mistake that has caused more chronic disease in modern time than anything else. — Jeffry N. Gerber, M.D. – Family Medicine – Denver’s Diet Doctor
Too Many Carbs
The Standard American Diet (SAD) is making people sick. How? Refined carbs and sugars have been around forever. However, it has become increasingly difficult to find healthy lower carb options. With 600,000 products on the shelves in the US, 80% have added sugar or high fructose corn syrup.

Junk Food
So why do people eat junk food? It is cheap and easily accessible. I agree the cost is cheaper, but the affects on our health in the long term, is much more expensive.
Eat Less and Exercise More
If you have to exercise to lose weight, your diet is wrong!
Your weight:
80% determined by what you eat
20% determined by exercise
Carbs, Inflammation and Cholesterol
Not all carbs are bad. Nutritious foods have carbs too.
Cholesterol is like a scab in your body. When your arteries become damaged your body releases cholesterol to patch you up. The cause of the cholesterol being released is inflammation and this is caused by eating sugary and starchy and grain based foods.
Eat a diet:
- Rich in nutrients
- Low in carbs
- High in good fats
We are not doomed by our genetics. It is up to you to make better choices. There is nothing like good health! Have you made better food choices or changes? Let me know what they are below in the comments.
